When you’re the King of England, people speculate about your appearance and your health. This is especially true when you’re 77 years old, and you were the oldest person to ascend to the British throne. And if you announced you were battling cancer a few years ago, that is just magnified. So, it’s not surprising that people have been dissecting King Charles’ last appearance, in a video paying tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth.

“My family and I pause to reflect on the life and loss of a sovereign who meant so much to us all and to celebrate anew the many blessings of her memory,” the king says in the video, which sees him looking very tired and a little subdued. It might be the tone he was trying to strike in the video, but it left people concerned.

People on Reddit had a lot to say about Charles’ appearance and demeanor. “This is such a lovely message. Unfortunately, the King does not look well IMHO,” one user wrote.

“He has aged a great deal, which is understandable. It’s not clear how harsh his treatments are or how bad the cancer is at this point, but it must be taking its toll,” a second person added.

“Charles looks terrible. Sorry. He does,” a third person observed, with someone else saying, “He looks unsteady, and he had a hard time reading the script.”

The King originally announced his cancer diagnosis in February 2024 and took a break from public engagements for a few months to receive treatment. But soon enough, he was back to his royal duties, and though he continues to fight the disease, he has not taken another break.

Charles’ latest update on his cancer journey came in December 2025, during Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer broadcast. At the time, the news appeared positive, with the king saying he was doing much better. “Today I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to ‘doctors’ orders,’ my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the New Year,” he explained then.

The latest appearance by King Charles comes after RadarOnline recently reported that, despite rumors indicating he would soon abdicate, Charles is not planning to do so.

Royal biographer and expert Robert Jobson said on Tom Sykes’ The Royalist podcast on April 8, “I’ve seen him at events not far from him where he’s almost falling asleep while standing up. And this is a man who believes wholeheartedly in his duty, and he’s a courageous man.”

“But I would say this: if he felt he could not carry out his duty because of ill health, and if he feels that his health was in any way affecting his position, then he would not necessarily look to stand down — but he would likely say ‘I can’t continue with the treatment I’ve got and I’ll let it take its action,’” he added.
